cameos

The House Mill project aims to reinstate all four water wheels, to restore some of the mill machinery to demonstrate grinding and together with modern turbines, placed outside at the rear of the building, the wheels will also be used for hydro power generation. We will demonstrate the technology of water power from the earliest times to the present, generate our own electricity, and create a truly unique educational resource. Built in 1776 it is one of the most important historic buildings surviving today in East London it is also the largest remaining tidal mill in the world. The project is an excellent example of how heritage conservation can be married with new renewable energy production technologies to create a sustainable visitor attraction with wider community benefits.

HLF permission to start the development phase was granted in April and the Trust has since been very busy interviewing and appointing the team to help us make our long-held dream a reality.
We are delighted to announce that the Project Team is now complete. The project managers are Focus Consultants, the Lead Consultant/Architect is Purcell Miller Tritton and the exhibition designers are Ralph AppleBaum Associates. They lead a team of 10 expert consultant companies, who will work closely with us to deliver our vision for the next stage in the life of the House Mill and a dynamic new visitor attraction.
